New Secret Egret
We have been content with our 34′ American tug we have owned since 2014 and love everything about it. But in July 2020 we saw a 41′ American Tug go on the market in Savannah. The year, amenities and price were within our range and would make life a lot more comfortable.
We told ourselves we were just going to go look at “Moon Shadows”. Once aboard we fell in love with it and knew it was time to make a change. This boat has a flybridge installed, they are pretty rare and not many were built with it. So we knew if we didn’t try to grab this one it might be a long time before we saw another one like it.
We took delivery early September and began our trip back to Jacksonville. I have almost no pictures of this trip because a few days after we got home I dropped my phone in the River and did not have any pictures backed up. So Ill just do a short recap.
The red line in this picture is the boats recorded GPS track during our trip.
We started in Isle of Hope just outside of downtown Savannah. The first day we stayed inside the intracoastal down to Sunbury Georgia. Sunbury Crab Company to be exact, they have a dock there and it was a great little spot to spend the night and eat Dinner.
Day two we woke up early and after looking at the Ocean forecast we decided we would make the run to St. Simons Island a few miles offshore to save some time. We’ll the forecast was not accurate to say the least. It was much rougher than it was supposed to be, we had already spent a good hour or so making our way out of the inlet. By the time we realized how rough it was it would have taken us another hour or more to turn back and make the trip in the Intracoastal. So we just decided to tough it out and spend the next 4 hours in pretty uncomfortable waves. We both got a little green but didn’t loose our lunch over it.
We got to St. Simons around 4pm got cleaned up and went out on the town. We also decided to stay another day here and leave the following day. St Simons is a neat little town with a lot of character.
Day 4 we left St Simons headed for Fernandina. We made this leg on the Intracoastal again because it was about the same amount of travel time vs leaving the inlet and making the cruise out in Ocean.
We spent another whole day in Fernandina, but left Sunday morning to get back to Jacksonville and go back to work Monday.
Great trip, we wanted to spend more time and stop in a couple more places but we were on a mission to get the new boat home. We will turn north again with her soon.
