On the Move Today
We left Downtown Jax around 9am after some cold and rainy morning walks. It’s gonna be pretty cold this weekend, not the best weather but we will make it work and we like making campfires at Murphy Island anyway.
We ran the generator while cruising to do some laundry and run the heater, but about an hour into or run South the generator shut down. Tried to start it again a couple times but no luck. So we just left it alone until we could really troubleshoot it when we arrived at Murphy Island. But with Saturday night calling for temps in the 20’s we were mentally preparing for a no heat weekend.
Made It! Now to figure out what’s up with the Generator.
Oil Good, Coolant Good, Raw Water Strainer looks clean, must be the water pump. Changed the water pump impeller, still shutting down, but I realized the water pump was very warm.
So, I opened the Raw Water Strainer to look at it more closely and there was a plastic Black & Mild cigar tip in the hose blocking the water flow. Must have sucked it up sitting downtown last night. It was stuck in a way that I couldn’t see it looking at the strainer glass that generally catches any debris we suck up. There was a pile of leaves and debris behind it that I had to clean out of the hose with a coat hanger.
It’s entirely possible that it’s been in there for a while and the flow just now was restricted enough to overheat the generator and make it shut down. But either way we have heat and electricity this weekend!
